Blues Wire

Blues Wire

Some would argue that it is unthinkable that a Greek band plays the blues and does it real well. Yet The Blues Wire did just that and a whole lot more. Formed in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1986,they quickly rose as a band with a thorough command of the blues idiom and its many shadings. They played all over Greece, by themselves or backing up various blues luminaries, until their first show abroad, in 1990 in Hungary.

From then on many more European performances took place, galvanizing the group as a serious act that could stand up there with the best of them. It would be tedious to list all the famous blues artists that they have backed or shared a stage with, but we will leave it at the late, great Katie Websters’ quote: ”The Blues Wire are the best blues band in Europe and they deserve to be heard by a wider audience”. The line up that lasted from 1986-1996 (the band still exists 38 years on), the same four people who played those early first European shows to tumultuous response, will be reunited especially for a few more concerts right here, where it all started. Sit back and enjoy.
